US universities earn MSC certification

The Marine Stewardship Council announced that Aramark and its client partners at the University of Virginia and James Madison University have achieved chain of custody certification resulting in the first MSC certified Aramark properties in the United States.

A 31-percent rise in Vietnamese seafood exports through April

(vasep.com.vn) In the first 4 months of 2014, Vietnamese seafood exports kept the growth trend recorded in 2013 with stable supply of raw shrimp and positive growth in shrimp sales to all foreign markets. Through April 2014, seafood exports had a worth of US$2.3 billion, up 31 percent year on year. Sales of pangasius products reported a slight rise. Cephalopod and other marine products were also recovering. Only tuna still got deep fall in exports.

Binh Thuan to have new industrial park for seafood processing

(vasep.com.vn) Bao Thu Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (BIDICO) started a project to build a new center for seafood processing which is called Tan Binh I Industrial Park in Tan Binh district, Binh Thuan province. The objective is to open a new period of development for the province's seafood processing sector and fishermen.

(vasep.com.vn) At current, farmers in Van Ninh district of Khanh Hoa province are on-season of whiteleg shrimp farmed on sand with average productivity of 30 MT per hectare. This year, bumper crop with high shrimp price brought large profit to local shrimp farmers.

Up in Vietnam shrimp exports to China despite accelerating tension in the East Sea

(vasep.com.vn) Tension in the East Sea appears to have no impact on seafood trade between Vietnam and China. If the incident is settled peacefully, Vietnam seafood exports, particularly shrimp exports to China will continue to gain good results due to China’s shortage of shrimp supply caused by EMS.

Tra Vinh: Sharp rise in aquaculture production in Jan-May 2014

Higher price for imported pangasius in the UK

(pangasius-vietnam.com) Pangasius sold to the U.K. market has better price than those sent to other European countries, but this is a highly demanding market in terms of product quality. In Q.I/2014, the average price of imported frozen pangasius fillets was US$3.09 per kilogram in the British market, up 5.1 percent against US$2.94 per kilogram in 2013.
