Vietnam’s tuna industry seizes “golden opportunity” to boost exports to the UAE

However, the export growth rate is slowing down a lot compared to previous months. Cumulatively, in the first 7 months of the year, tuna export turnover reached 558 million USD, an increase of 22%.

Tuna exports are projected to reach 456.8 million USD in the first half of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 20%, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Thailand's tuna exports to this market decreased by 21% in value and 27% in volume compared to 2022. Therefore, the Middle East dropped to second position among Thailand's export markets after the US, accounting for 22% of total export turnover in 2023.

Vietnam raked in over US$200 million from exporting tuna to 86 markets worldwide during the first quarter of the year, representing a rise of 19% against the same period from last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Chile, one of the countries participating in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), has tended to increase tuna imports from Vietnam in the past 3 years. According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, this South American country imported nearly 3 million USD of tuna products from Vietnam in the first 2 months of 2024, an increase of 58% over the same period in 2023.
