Senate passes farm bill without McCain amendment to end USDA catfish inspection initiative

The Senate approved a farm bill on Monday evening 66 to 27. The legislation, which has a $955 billion price tag over the next decade, would end direct payments to farmers and boost subsidized crop insurance, but the bill did not include major food safety amendments, including Sen. John McCain's provision to repeal the controversial catfish inspection program at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

36 fishing unions were established nationwide

Seafood exports rise by 25pc in May

Norway exported seafood to a value of NOK 4.9 billion (EUR 643.5 million) in May. This is an increase of NOK 966 million (EUR 127 million), or 25 per cent, compared with May last year.

Vietnam seafood exports recovered

(vasep.com.vn) After a sharp decline in the first 3 months of the year, Vietnam's seafood exports began to recover from April and this trend continued in May with an increase of 8.3% to reach US$592 million. While exports of shrimp and pangasius found the upward reversal, the marine products such as tuna, squid, octopus and other sea fish tended to decline.
