EU considers ban to stop IUU fishing

It’s been six months since European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Maria Damanaki issued a letter to eight countries she felt were not doing enough to stop illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and now she is considering taking further action against countries that have done nothing in response.

CFSAN Science and Research Strategic Plan Now Available

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition Science and Research (CSR) Strategic Plan. The CSR Strategic Plan provides a blueprint for FDA research that supports the agency’s effort to address food, dietary supplement, and cosmetic safety concerns and to implement new Food Safety Modernization Act mandated regulatory responsibilities.

Russian market for cold-water shrimp contracting

The growth of demand for cooked shrimp in Russia over the past six years has been one of the key factors in rising coldwater shrimp prices. The heavy demand for this shrimp reduced the amount going to cooked and peeled, and limited the impact of twice frozen shrimp on the cooked and peeled market. However, that may now be changing, as the demand for the smaller size cooked and peeled shrimp in Russia is waning. Neil Ramsden, ofUndercurrent News, has a report.
