EU ban on Pakistani seafood politically motivated: official

French confirm cod preference in 2011

(IntraFish) 2011 figures show French consumers are sticking to cod as their second most loved fresh fish. Despite higher prices, French retail sales of fresh cod fell in volume, but rose in value in 2011 -- while sales of the cheaper pangasius dropped both in volume and value, with volumes tumbling by 32 percent.

Vietnam pangasius imports into Spain declined

(pangasius-vietnam.com) Out of 130 countries and territories importing Vietnam pangasius, Spain is one of 5 largest single importers as well as the largest market of Vietnam pangasius in EU block. However, in the first two weeks of January 2012, Vietnam pangasius exports to Spain continued to decline and showed no upward trend in the upcoming months this year.

SOUTHVINA facing challenge in pangasius export to the EU

(vasep.com.vn) Southern Fishery Industries Company Ltd (Southvina) has met difficulties when exporting pangasius products to the EU, said Mr. Duong Viet Thang, the company’s Vice Director. Raw pangasius in Mekong Delta priced at around VND26,000 per kilogram, bank loan rate was higher and input costs kept rising. In this tough situation, Southvina tried to remain export price, but it failed to have more contracts.

Bleak future for sardines in Northeast Pacific

(fis.com) Two researchers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Southwest Fisheries Science Centre claim that the sardine population decreases in northeast Pacific Ocean and is heading for a collapse similar to that which affected catches of the resource in recent decades in Chilean and Japanese waters.

Thailand’s shrimp export volume down 40,329 MT

(vasep.com.vn) At the beginning of 2011, a severe flood happened in southern Thailand (the main shrimp farming area of the country) leading to lower shrimp production of 10 percent. Some months later, Thailand continued to be hit by record flooding happening from the late July 2011 and lasting many months after that.

Kien Giang province set up the first fishing union

73 seafood enterprises recognized as elite exporters in 2013

(vasep.com.vn) On May 23rd 2014, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) issued the Decision No. 4603/QĐ-BCT on approving the official list of Vietnam’s elite exporters in 2013. The list includes 370 companies from 22 sectors in which the number of seafood companies made up the largest proportion.

Pangasius feed price in 2011 surged seven-fold higher than 2010

(pangasius-vietnam.com) According to Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish), in 2011, the total production of pangasius seed nationwide reached nearly 2.4 billion pieces, pangasius farming area was 5,430 hectares, harvested fish production gained 1,195,344 MT. Compared to 2010, fish seed production was stable while farming area increased by 30 hectares and fish production rose by 50,000 MT.

HP Seafood’s export to the EU slowed

(vasep.com.vn) So far this year, export of cephalopods and marine fish to the EU market of Hiep Phat Seafood Joint Stock Company (HP Seafood) has been slowed down and export prices slightly decreased, according to Vo Thanh Hiep, the company’s Chairman.
