(vasep.com.vn) So far this year, export of cephalopods and marine fish to the EU market of Hiep Phat Seafood Joint Stock Company (HP Seafood) has been slowed down and export prices slightly decreased, according to Vo Thanh Hiep, the company’s Chairman.
The company reported drop in price of its cephalopods products shipped to Korea, the biggest importer of this item; while it was grappling with rising price of raw material and short supply in Vietnam.
In January 2012, HP seafood earned only US$600,000 of export value. After the traditional Tet holiday in late January, economic downturn in the EU caused low demand for marine fish products.
Currently, Kien Giang province can provide enough raw squid for HP Seafood’s processing plant and the company is also seeking partners for its squid and marine fish products; however, it is unable to get more credit to invest in large-scale production.
So far, HP Seafood is trying to maintain job for more than 350 workers and gain profit in business. However, HP Seafood has to pay high bank loan rate of 17 – 14 percent a year.
Since export to the EU has become unstable, HP Seafood plans to turn to others markets like Asia, Australia and Canada.
