(IntraFish) Halibut catch limits for 2012 will be substantially lower than last year, the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) officially decided on Monday. The catch limit is set at 33,540,000 pounds, 18.3 percent lower than the 2011 catch limit of 41,070,000 pounds.

(VASEPNews) Annually, seafood exports often reach the lowest level in February due to low demand in international markets and off season harvest. However, in Feb 2012, seafood exports reported a sudden growth of 65 percent from Feb 2011 and 16 percent from Jan 2012 after strong reduction of 16.5 percent in Jan 2012. This is the highest level compared to Feb of previous years.

(fis.com) The Export Inspection Agency (EIA) said that fishing vessels which have not registered with EIAs in their respective states by 15 March will not be granted health certificates or permits to export to the European Union (EU). Seafood exports to the EU have thus come to a halt.

(IntraFish) Prices for headed and gutted (H&G) Atlantic cod are trading at between $3,150 (€2,375) to $3,250 (€2,450) per metric ton, down from around $3,400 (€2,563) to $3,500 (€2,639) in mid-January, sources told IntraFish.

(VASEPNews) Tien Giang Sub-Department of Aquaculture collaborating with Kieng Phuoc Commune People Committee (Cong Dong district) has applied barcode for farmed shrimp in the locality to speed up management, support techniques for shrimp farmers as well as pay the way for shrimp traceability on request on quality and food hygiene control.
