(vasep.com.vn) In January 15th, 2012 Kien Giang Labour Union officially launched its first fishing union in An Hoa commune (Rach Gia city) with the participation of 90 fishermen.
In the inauguration ceremony, Kien Giang Labour Union gave member card to 90 fishermen. Kien Giang province has nearly 12,000 fishing vessels (3,508 of which are for offshore fishing) and employ more than 82,000 workers. In a period of 4 months, the local authorities met two fishing enterprises (Thien Tri and Huynh Ty) and their crews to propaganda them to join in the union. After that, these fishing enterprises registered to participate in the union because they were aware of their benefits when they are members of the union.
At the ceremony, Mr. Tran Minh Thong, a leader of Kien Giang said that with the participation in the union, fishermen will be supported at sea. Their participation in the union also contributes to develop domestic economy and protect the sovereign of sea and islands of Vietnam.Ms. Tran Thi Ai Nhan, the president of Kien Giang Labour Union said that the fishing union will legally represent and protect the fishermen’s interest, help them solve their disputes in the fishing process, assist their fishing activities if they get risk at sea as well as guarantee labour for offshore fishing.
