FSIS to Publish Proposed Rules to List Vietnam, China, and Thailand as Eligible to Export Siluriformes Fish and Fish Products to the U.S.

Next week, FSIS will publish in the Federal Register three proposed rules to list Vietnam, China, and Thailand as foreign countries eligible to export Siluriformes fish and fish products to the United States.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam’s shrimp exports in QII/2018 reached over US$893 million, down 4.9% due to fluctuations in the domestic and global shrimp prices. However, thanks to the growth of 20% in QI, the figure in the first half of this year slightly increased by 5.1% to see US$1.6 billion. With higher import demand in Apr-Jun this year and steady shrimp prices, Vietnam’s shrimp sales this year expected to total US$4 billion.

(vasep.com.vn) After 10 years implementing the Resolution No 26-NQ/TW on agriculture, rural areas, farmers (2008 - 2018), Vietnam seafood export turnover doubled. In particular, shrimp exports accounted for the largest proportion and strongest and the most stable growth. After 10 years, shrimp export turnover increased nearly 2.5 times from $1.6 billion to nearly $3.9 billion, with an average annual growth of 9%. Shrimp exports account for a increasing share of total seafood exports: from 36% to over 50%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After 10 years of implementing the Resolution of the 7th plenum of the 10th Party Central Committee on agriculture, farmers and rural areas, Vietnam’s seafood production and exports increased sharply, in which the output increased by 60%, the export value rose by 100%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam's tuna exports to the Netherlands has continued to grow steadily. Notably, sales of fresh/live/frozen tuna increased by nearly 131% over the same period, which put the market to be the second largest importer of Vietnam in the EU.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first five months of 2018, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to Brazil reached US$34.1 million, down 31.9% over the same period last year. Th country was a potential importing market of Vietnamese pangasius in 2017 and expected to continue in the second half of 2018.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The Netherlands held as the 8th largest shrimp importer in the world, accounting for nearly 3% of the total shrimp import value of the world. Every year, the Netherlands imports about US$600 million of shrimp from major shrimp suppliers in the world such as Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Ecuador and some countries such as Belgium, Germany, the UK and Denmark. The Netherlands imported shrimp not only for domestic consumption but also for processing and re-exporting to other countries in the EU. In recent years, shrimp imports into the Netherlands were on the upward trend.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) While seafood exports encounter difficulties selling to the EU, many Vietnamese cephalopod enterprises currently shifted their exports to Thailand. The country was the seventh largest importer of cephalopod in the world and also the largest buyer in ASEAN which currently increased imports from Vietnam.
