The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has expanded its most efficient rice and aquatic species farming models in the last two years.

The Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre will invest more than 2.5 trillion VND (107.5 million USD) by 2030 to develop key aquatic species like black tiger shrimp, white-legged shrimp and tra fish, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

Aquatic products are subject to a lot of incentives in the European Union – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), according to experts.

Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân and European Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmstrom exchanged ideas related to the signing and ratification of the EU-Viêt Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Việt Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) during their meeting in Hà Nội yesterday.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented several measures to develop the best breeding sources to produce seeds for the delta’s fishery, fruit and rice sectors by 2025.

In the early July 2019, farmers in Hiep Thanh commune (Duyen Hai district, Tra Vinh province – one province in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam) are busying harvesting shrimp. They are very happy because this shrimp crop fetchs high yield.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) South Korea is fifth largest importer of Vietnamese shrimp. From 2008 to 2013, Vietnam shrimp exports to Korea ranged from US$85 million to US$225 million. After the Vietnam - Korea Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA) came into effect in 2015, from 2016 to 2018, Vietnam shrimp exports to South Korea increased from US$285 million to US$386 million. Thus, VKFTA has had positive impact on Vietnam shrimp exports in the past time.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2018, the export value of pangasius and basa fish to the Korean market reached US$5.75 million, up 28% year on year. However, in the first 4 months of this year, the export value of this product to Korea decreased by more than 14% over the same period in 2018. So far, Korea is still a small market for Vietnamese pangasius.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2018, the exports of Vietnamese fish paste and surimi products to the Korean market grew continuously, reaching US$108.6 million, up 32.2%. In the first four months of this year, export of fish paste and surimi to this market increased 1.7% to US$27.7 million. From the No. 1 position in importing fish paste and surimi from Vietnam, Korea ceded the top position to ASEAN and was the second largest surimi importer of Vietnam, accounting for 26% of total surimi export value of Vietnam to markets.
