The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), under the United States Department of Agriculture, has officially recognized Vietnam’s pangasius food safety control system after more than three years of negotiations, reports Vietnam News.

After 2 years of EU’s warning of yellow card for Vietnam's caught marine products, Vietnam's marine product export to EU market has been remarkably affected, down 6.5% to nearly 390 million USD in 2018 and continued to level off in the first 8 months of 2019 with 251 million USD. From the second position in Vietnam's seafood import markets, after the yellow card, the EU has dropped to fifth and the proportion of the market has decreased from 18% to 13%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the report on Vietnam seafood exports in the first quarter of 2019, Vietnam’s seafood exports in the first 3 months of this year showed the slight growth of 1% to touch US$1.8 million because shrimp exports continued to decline. Vietnam’s seafood exports in the second quarter this year are forecast to rise by 8% if exports of marine products (marine finfish, tuna, cephalopod) post the sharp increase and pangasius exports show the stable growth.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnamese shrimp exports rose by 13% in July 2019, down slightly by 1.6% in August and continued to decrease by 7.4% in September. Vietnamese shrimp exports in September 2019 reached US$307.3 million, decreased by 7.4%. Accumulated in the first 9 months of 2019, shrimp exports reached US$2.4 billion, down 7% from the same period in 2018.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) By the end of September 2019, the total export value of pangasius reached US$1.46 billion, down 8.5% over the same period in 2018. Particularly in September 2019, pangasius export value decreased by 14.6%, of which, export value to many major importers such as the US, EU, Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia also dropped sharply.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to Directorate of Fisheries, total seafood production in September 2019 reached 733.5 thousand MT, of which capture output hit 251 thousand MT, aquaculture volume touched 328.5 thousand MT. Accumulated from the beginning of 2019, the total output is estimated at 5,964.9 thousand MT, up 5.4% over the same period in 2018 and reaching 73.8% of the 2019 plan, of which, capture output is estimated at 2,850.9 thousand MT, aquaculture production is 3,114 thousand MT.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnamese cephalopod exports in the first 9 months of 2019 reached US$428.2 million, down 9.6% over the same period in 2018. Particularly in September 2019, cephalopod exports reached US$42.6 million, down 25.4% over the same period in 2018.
