Minister of MARD Cao Duc Phat urged aquaculture sector to implement this plan by re-arranging production activities in offshore areas, shifting from offshore fishing to inshore farming in order to secure economic growth and national defense. He also emphasized the essential role of provincial governments to develop effective marine aquaculture models, to better combine all stages from exploitation and farming to marketing and trading, to gradually develop production in key coastline areas.
The Department of Marine Resources Exploitation and Protection was given the authority to cooperate with relevant agencies to instruct and inspect the implementation of the action plan, to review current policies and propose new ones to support all activities in marine fishing, seafood processing, offshore and inshore services, and natural disaster aids.
Mr Phat also called for new plans to set up aquaculture corporations, to strengthen commerce and aquaculture ties between Vietnam and regional and international partners.
