(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Khanh Hoa Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, in collaboration with the Northern Center for Marine Aquaculture Research and the Van Hung Public Service Center, recently organized a training course on disease-free golden pompano seed production. The program is part of a National Agricultural Extension Project aimed at developing industrial-scale seed production models to support sustainable marine aquaculture.
The training brought together representatives from technical agencies, community agricultural extension groups, and 20 local households interested in investing in aquaculture seed production. Participants received comprehensive instruction on the entire production process, including broodstock selection and conditioning, artificial fertilization, egg incubation and transportation, larval rearing, nursery management from larvae to fingerlings, and seed transportation for commercial farming.
Experts emphasized that seed quality is a key determinant of successful marine fish farming. To produce disease-free fingerlings, hatcheries must strictly control water quality, stocking density, feed management, tank sanitation, and transportation procedures to minimize mortality and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.
One topic that attracted significant attention was the high mortality rate during the transition from larvae to fingerlings. During the training, specialists introduced water quality management measures under changing weather conditions, disease prevention techniques, and practical solutions to improve fingerling survival rates.
Golden pompano is considered a high-value marine aquaculture species due to its rapid growth, premium flesh quality, and stable market demand. According to experts, securing a reliable supply of disease-free seed will reduce dependence on external suppliers, improve farming efficiency, and provide a solid foundation for the development of industrial-scale marine aquaculture. Khanh Hoa Province plans to continue refining production protocols, monitoring project outcomes, and expanding the model to other suitable farming areas in the future.
