(vasep.com.vn) The seminar “Cooperation on Science and Technology between Vietnam - Russia” was held in Khanh Hoa in May 23rd 2012 with the participation of more than 50 Vietnam and Russia experts with an aim to evaluate and orient to expand potential cooperation between two countries in fishery sector.
Those are leading experts from Institute of Oceanography, Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre, Research Institute for Marine Products, the Pacific Research Center for Marine Products (Russia). The two countries’ fishery sectors are keen on protecting fish stock and aquatic biodiversity while developing aquaculture, post-harvest technology and processing technology of value added seafood products, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu said.
Since 1988, Vietnam and Russia have engaged in many cooperative programmes in the field such as research on ocean and fisheries, development of spawns and fries, development of cold water finfish farming. But the cooperation had failed to reach its full potential in the absence of suitable and stable cooperative mechanisms for scientific research on fisheries.
In order to strengthen bilateral cooperation in fishery technology-science, the seminar discussed some major issues: Developing marine fisheries through fish stock evaluation, biodiversity research, fish catching, research on seed to select good seed for producing, research on epidemic and solutions for disease prevention, extraction of biologically-active composition, research on climate change affected to fish production. Besides, post-harvest technology such as fish treatment, preservation, processing was also discussed at the seminar.
Participants discussed coordination between the two countries in personnel training for the fishery sector, to meet future research and cooperative objectives.
