Vietnam raised selling poulp squid to S.Korea

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 7 months of this year, Vietnam cephalopod exports to South Korea valued at US$81.2 million, down 7.7% from the same period last year. After drops in exports to this market in Feb-May 2016, there have been signs of recovery since June. However, South Korea still remained the leading importer of Vietnam cephalopod, accounting for 37.2%.

Recently, South Korea not only increased imports of cephalopod from Vietnam, but also raised those of poulp squid frozen/dried/salted or in brine. However, the prices of these items tended to fall. The average import price of poulp squid frozen/dried/salted or in brine into this market in the first half of this year ranged from US$4 to US$4.7 per kilo, in which it reached a peak in May and the lowest in early this year.

China was the biggest supplier of poulp squid frozen/dried/salted or in brine to Korea, followed by Vietnam and Thailand. However, the average export price of Vietnam and Thailand to this market were lower than last year, while that of China were on the upward trend.

In Jan-Jul this year, cephalopod imports into South Korea reached US$328.79 million, down 5.1% compared to the same period in 2015. Vietnam stayed as the 2nd  largest supplier of cephalopod to South Korea.
