"Rigorous checks' after issues were raised around provenance of tuna. UK authorities have seized tuna shipments at ports over fears illegally caught fish may enter the supply chain, reported The Grocer.
The Marine Management Organisation said it has identified potential problems with tuna caught by Ghanaian vessels, destined for the United Kingdom, and will be holding them at ports until further notice.
"We are undertaking rigorous checks after issues were raised around the provenance of a quantity of tuna imported into the United Kingdom," a spokesperson at the organization said.
The United Kingdom imports about 10 percent by value of its tuna from Ghana, worth about £27 million (€31.5 million/$41.1 million) every year.
