(vasep.com.vn) 2012 year to date, Tra Vinh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) granted 50 certificates for caught raw fish and 10 certificates for marine fish exported to EU.
The total marine fish landings granted certificates in compliance with regulations by EU reached 203.9 MT.
According to the current regulation by EU, caught marine fish exported to the market must include information relating to the number of fishing vessel, the name of vessel owner, fishing gear, zone where fish caught, kind of fish, weight of fish etc.
The regulation was discussed and agreed in April 2005 in Rome, Italia with an aim at tightening control of fishing activities in waters of its members. Overfishing by destructive means is making serious impacts on fish resources; on migration of many fish species such as ocean tuna or swordfish. The regulation also targets to prevent fishers from discharging waste to protect marine environment.
To creat favorable conditions for certifying caught marine fish exported to EU market for local enterprises, DARD of the province requested Department of Exploitation and Protection of Aquatic Resources to organise training courses for fishery staff in coastal districts on legal documents on catching and protecting aquatic resources; related regulations by EU on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
DARD also held training courses for 1,400 vessels owners and captains, managers of seafood processing facilities in the province. Trainees were guided to update information, to note fishing diary, kinds of caught fish and other issues regulated by EU.
Conforming to regulations by EU on reporting the origin of caught marine fish makes contribution to easier management by Tra Vinh agencies on aquatic resources protection and reproduction; on fishing grounds control; and on fishing efficiency.
Thanks to these, fishery in Tra Vinh will expand markets for its marine fish products, and develop its fisheries in sustainable and stable ways.
