(vasep.com.vn) Kien Giang province is one of the pioneers in helping Vietnamese fishermen officially sign contracts to go fishing in Indonesian waters with high fish stocks, said Tran Chi Vien, Deputy Director of Kien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
After their first 10-day trips starting on August 30th, 2013, eight fishing boats owned by two fishermen from Kien Giang have got high volume of fish landings. The profits are estimated to increase to VDN400 million per two boats.
Contracts to catch legally in international waters, firstly in those of some neighbour coastal countries, is a good way to help Vietnamese fishermen avoid the risks of being arrested during their deep-sea fishing trips.
The country has totaled 1.53 million MT of fish landings during the 2013 South fishing season, up 4.24 percent against the yearly target. The country plans to reach 1.17 million MT of fishes in the 2013 North fishing season; of which, marine fish catch will be 1.11 million MT.
