The Brackish and Salt Water Fisheries Seeds Center of Thua Thien-Hue has successfully received the snout clam seed production techniques from the Aquaculture Research Institute No.1.
In the first six months of 2010, both partners produced 13.3 million of snout clam seeds with estimated sale at VND4 billion. The center also experimentally stocked more than 5,000 snout clam in Loc Binh coastal area, Phu Loc District.
Thua Thien-Hue has favorable natural conditions for snout clam farming, in regard of environment, seawater resource and climate. Snout clam has more advantages over black tiger shrimp and sweet snail farming because of lower production cost (no feed used). Snout clam lives on phytoplankton and organic particles available in sea water, therefore snout clam farming partly contributes to improve the ecosystem environment. (VietFishNews)
