Surimi exports to ASEAN on steady growth
(vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, in 2012, ASEAN ranked third among Vietnam’s importers of fish paste and surimi products, after South Korea and Japan. Through August 2013, ASEAN has passed Japan to be the second largest market for the products with US$27.3 million, up 14.8 percent against the same period of 2012 and represented 20.3 percent in national surimi exports.
In the first eight months, export earnings from Thailand and Singapore – two big markets in ASEAN – increased by 24.3 percent and 12.5 percent, respectively. Malaysia saw drop of 29.8 percent in value. Thailand was the leading buyer of Vietnamese surimi in the region with value of US$18.7 million, accounting for 70 percent of ASEAN’s surimi imports this period.
