(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first months of 2016, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Italy and Spain (in the EU bloc) showed the positive growth. Despite a decrease in cephalopod imports into Italy and Spain in the early 2016, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to these two markets rose. This was mainly driven by the decline in cephalopod supply from some main suppliers with high price.
According to Vietnam Customs, as of Mar, 15th 2016, Vietnam cephalopod exports to Europe reached US$8.55 million, an increase of 7.8% year on year. The EU remained the 4th position among the biggest cephalopod importers of Vietnam, accounting for 13% of the total exports. From Jan, 1st 2016 to Mar, 15th 2016, cephalopod exports to Spain totalled US$821 thousand, up 193.7% and that to Italy hit US$5.23 million, up 6.3% year on year.
Vietnam’s processed cephalopod exports to Spain and Italy are increasingly growing with higher market share in these two markets.
Value added cephalopod of Vietnam is becoming a safe choice of European importers in which Italian importers want to replace high-priced cephalopod products with Vietnam cephalopod with reasonable price.
With the advantage in producing value added products, Vietnam cephalopod exporters should take the advantage to increase the market share in Italian market – the market with high demand for processed products.
