Quy Nhon: Lack of seed for fish culture

(vasep.com.vn) Since July 2013, many farmers in Quy Nhon city (Binh Dinh province) have been struggling with the lack of fish seed to stock in their rafts and cages floating in the nearshore area of Hai Minh.

As a key fish farming zone of Quy Nhon city, Hai Minh has had 80 farming households with 707 floating cages in the lagoon of Thi Nai. The main farmed species are snapper, sea bass, grouper, and cobia. Currently, seed of snapper costs at VND10,000 per piece; VND2,000 – 3,000 above that of the same time of last year. However, farmers have still faced short supply of this kind of fish seed. Many of them were pushed to leave their cages empty this season.
