(vasep.com.vn) On 16th December, leaders of five coastal provinces namely Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Kien Giang participated in the a conference on management for fishing ports and shelters in Kien Giang hosted by MARD Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam.
“Kien Giang province, with the largest fishing grounds, has great potentials for developing marine economy. In 2014, over 10 thousand registered vessels of the province captured 462,000 MT, the highest nationally”, said Mai Anh Nhin, Deputy Chairman of Kien Giang.
Fishing centers will be built in Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, Ha Phong, Ba Ria Vung Tau and Kien Giang, referencing the model international fish market in Busan, South Korea. Fishing centers will include office buildings, wholesale markets, parking area, cold storage, areas to store fresh seafood, classification area and fishing port which can receive 20,000 MT ships.
Investments for these fishing centers will be mobilized from both the government and private investors. State budget will be used for key infrastructures.
Data from Directorate of Fisheries revealed that in 2014, fisheries sector has contributed approximately 3.7% to the national GDP, creating jobs for more than 4.5 million of people. Total aquaculture production in 2014 is estimated at 6.2 million MT, equivalent to VND 300 trillion in value.
