Khaspexco faces difficulties due to lack of raw material

Vietnam seafood exporters have to compete to Chinese dealers in purchasing raw marine fish caught in the Central and South Central Coast such as stingray, mackerel, hairtail…Along the coast from the Central to Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, Chinese dealers buy fish directly from fishermen or employ local people to buy fish for them.

Now, its two traditional products including leather jacket fish and golden threadfin bream can not continue to be exported because of lack of raw materials. In 2010, the total export value of the company reached US$8 million, down US$2 million on that of the previous year. In 2011, the scarcity of raw material and fierce competition of Chinese dealers cause more hardship for the company.

At current, its raw material source can only meet 30 percent of the total capacity of Khaspexco. Therefore, the company has to do outwork for some domestic enterprises and even Chinese enterprises to ensure jobs for its 500 workers.
