(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Currently, Japan tended to increase imports of frozen cephalopod, however, the shipments into this market remained low compared to the same period last year.
The average import price of frozen cephalopod fluctuated at US$6 – 7 per kilo, and it reached the highest in Jan this year, while the lowest in March. Vietnam stayed as the 4th largest supplier to this market.
According to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in Jan-Jul 2016, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Japan valued at US$55.06 million, down 5.5% from the same period last year. Japan currently held the 2nd rank in top biggest buyers of Vietnam cephalopod, accounting for 25.2%.
Seafood consumption in Japan decreased continuously due to changes of the exchange rate, which reduced the import volume and value of seafood into Japan in Jun 2016. In addition, the exchange rate fluctuations occurred in the global market, owing to the impact from the Brexit, which also reduced Japan's imports.
