Iran’s annual sea food exports value is planned to reach 250 million dollars in the next Iranian calendar year, which starts on March 21, 2014, the managing director of Iran’s Aquaculture Cooperatives Union said.
The country enjoys potentiality to produce 25,000 tons of fish and shrimp per year, the Fars News Agency quoted Arsalan Qasemi as saying.
While over 14,000 hectares area of aquatic farms has been built across the country, but less than 4,000 hectares area of the farms is being used for aquaculture, he added.
Iran plans to export as much as $350 million worth of fishery products in the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21, ISNA quoted State Fishery Organization head Gholamreza Razeqi as saying in July.
The official said that infrastructure is provided for foreign investment in Iran’s fishery sector, IRNA reported in March.
