(vasep.com.vn) According to report by Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Department, through October 2013, the fishery production reached 2,379 thousand MT, up 3.4 percent against the same time of 2012. Fish catch is expected to be around 2,211 thousand MT, up 3.1 percent while aquaculture up 7.7 percent to 168 thousand MT.
In October 2013, fish catching activities in fishing grounds of central provinces were damaged by two typhoons. However, boats in the southern fishing grounds still reported huge landings. Many provinces are upgrading fishing gears and building new boats for offshore fishing.
Many provinces got high fish volume: Phu Yen with 45,125 MT of fish (including 4,200 of tuna); Khanh Hoa 70,000 MT (2,800 MT of tuna); Binh Dinh 145,011 MT (7,811 MT of tuna); Kien Giang 356,944 MT; Vung Tau 245,000 MT; Ca Mau 130,055 MT; Ben Tre 120,647 MT.
Nationwide fish aquaculture was 275 thousand MT in October 2013, up 3.8 percent over a year ago. The year-to-date volume increased by 2.5 percent to 2,634 thounsand MT. Pangasius was grown on the area of 5,700 hectares for total production of 785 thousand MT.
