FDA warns against Oyster Bay Harbor shellfish

(IntraFish) The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received reports of illness caused by vibrio parahaemolyticus bacteria from several states, and shellfish harvested from Oyster Bay Harbor, in New York state, have been linked to the illnesses.

All shellfish harvesters, shippers, re-shippers, processors, restaurants, and retail food establishments should check identity tags on all containers of shellfish in their inventories, the FDA said.

The New York state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) closed Oyster Bay Harbor on July 13 to shellfish harvesting.
