(vasep.com.vn) Australia is a potential market of Vietnam seafood. Vietnam goods exports to Australia are facilitated by shorter distance over the U.S. and Europe.
Moreover, Free Trade Agreement between Australia and ASEAN (including Vietnam) helps boost Vietnam goods exports thanks to preferential duty rate. Vietnam cephalopod exporters to Australia are enjoying zero duty rate.
Australia yearly imported 200,000 MT of fish, in which Vietnam occupied one quarter of the country’s total seafood import value, Mr. Norman Grant, Executive Chairman of Seafood Importers Association of Australia and Robert Chua, consultant of Australian market said.
Australia is the seventh largest importer of Vietnam seafood after ASEAN. Out of Vietnam’s total seafood exports to the market, shrimp accounted for 60 percent, followed by pangasius with 23.3 percent, marine finfish in all varieties with 12.5 percent, cephalopod with 1.9 percent.
