Encouraging bivalve mollusk exports to Australia
(vasep.com.vn) Due to the decline in exports to large markets such as the U.S., EU, ASEAN and China, Vietnam bivalve mollusk exporters shifted to sell their products to new markets like Australia.
Through mid October 2013, Vietnam’s bivalve mollusk shipments to Australia showed a notable growth, in which exports in May 2013 posted the highest growth of 10,223 percent year-on-year.
Although exports to Australia made up only 2 percent of the country’s total bivalve mollusk exports, Australia is a potential market of Vietnam exporters thanks to its high demand and preferential duty rate. However, suppliers to Australia must comply with strict requirements on food safety and product design.
Domestic exporters are further improving the quality of bivalve mollusk products and diversify exported products to raise their competitiveness and boost exports to the market.
