(vasep.com.vn)Vietnam’s capture production in 2013 was estimated to reach 2,661.8 thousand MT including 2,474.5 thousand MT of marine catch and 187.3 thousand MT of inland catch. Total capture output this year was up 1.09 percent from 2012.
Through December 10th 2013, the number of vessels that have been registered were 116 thousand ones, making up 99 percent of the country’s total fishing vessels (117 thousand MT).
Now the country has about 3,700 fishing groups with the participation of 22,000 vessels and 140,000 fishermen.
Besides, in 2013, the country established over 50 fishing unions with high capacity as a pilot.
However, fishermen are facing some difficulties such as lack of investments in infrastructures for fish catching, hiking input costs (fuel, materials).
