Bivalve mollusk exports recovered in April

(vasep.com.vn) Entering Q.II/2014, Vietnam bivalve mollusk exports showed signs of recovery with slight growth after deep decline in exports in Q.I/2014.

According to General Department of Vietnam Customs, exports of the item in April 2014 reached over US$7.8 million, up 1 percent year on year, bringing total export value of bivalve mollusk through April 2014 to hit over US$23.4 million, down 9 percent year on year.

Vietnam provided its bivalve mollusk products to 42 markets. Exports to some major markets such as the U.S., Australia and Mexico reported positive growth.

After the decline in Q.I/2014, bivalve mollusk exports to the U.S. in April 2014 recovered with total sales of over US$560 thousand, up 21.5 percent year on year. Accordingly, exports of the item to the U.S through April 2014 increased by 1.7 percent year on year.

Vietnam’s sales of the item to Australia in April 2014 touched more than US$129 thousand, up 58 percent year on year, driving total exports to the market until April 2014 to increase by 6.9 percent year on year.

Between January and April 2014, bivalve mollusk shipment to Mexico witnessed a three digit growth of 249 percent. As a result, the market was put into top 10 largest importers of Vietnam bivalve mollusk.

Bivalve mollusk exports to EU continued the decrease with slower pace. Exports of the item to two leading markets in EU block (Portugal and Spain) saw the year-on-year growth in April and the first 4 months of 2014.

In coming time, it is expected that Vietnam bivalve mollusk exports will grow positively thanks to high demand from major markets.
