Currently, the local fishing fleet includes 704 fishing vessels with a total capacity of 33,065HP, of which 453 vessels have the capacity of 90HP upwards. The commune’s catch landings average 7,500-8,000MT per year, providing an abundant source of materials for local seafood processing.
Joining the model of first off-shore fishing group founded in 2005, to date there are such eight groups with 5-7 fishing vessels each. The fishers in a group keep exchanging resource situation and market information, supporting one another in fishing, preventing natural disasters and incidents emerged at sea.
As a result, all member vessels achieve a yield of 1.5-2 times higher than that when they worked individually. The model proved effective with higher catch landings and lowering production costs by VND10-15 million per vessel per fishing trip. (VietFishNews)
