Binh Dinh developing more high-capacity fishing vessels

(vasep.com.vn) According to Sub-Department of Capture Fisheries and Resources Protection Binh Dinh, local fishermen have recently invested in building and upgrading vessels for offshore catching with an aim to increase landings and to earn larger profit.

Up to now, the province owns 7,226 fishing vessels with total capacity of over 900 thousand CV, in which there are 2,746 offshore fishing ones with capacity of more than 90 CV. The vessels operate all the year round in various fishing grounds.

So far this year, local capture production is estimated to reach over 18,700 MT, up 47.3 percent year on year, in which tuna output was 880 MT, down 32.5 percent year on year.

The province is calling for establishing an assistance fund for local fishermen. So far, over VND1.6 billion has been raised from many organizations and individuals nationwide for the fund.

The province has over 7,700 fishing vessels with 42,000 fishermen who contributed a major part in social-economic development. However, they may meet with accidents while operating offshore and fall into troubles with debts. Thus, the foundation of support fund for fishermen will help fishermen maintain operations at sea, Mr. Tran Van Vinh, Deputy-Director of the Sub-Department said.

The assistance fund for fishermen calls the community to join hands in assisting fishermen who got risk at sea.
