Baseafood: A US$15 million contract inked

Baseafood’s Deputy Director, Mr. Pham Cong Huyen, said at the Viet Nam Trade Fair in Russia, his company signed five contracts with a total value of US$19 million with Russian customers, among them was a US$15 million contract, the largest contract signed at the event. This contract included US$5 million for frozen seafood, US$5 million for surimi, and US$5 million for dried marine fish.

At the exhibition, Baseafood has introduced for the first time the marinated dried squid, which caught attention from customers who wanted to import this product into Russia in the near future.

By the middle of September of 2009, Baseafood shipped 3,644MT of seafood, worth US$9.836 million to Russia, Ukraine, EU, Japan, Middle East, North Africa, etc.

Huyen said Baseafood has resumed contracts with its long-established as well as new clients in the Middle East and North Africa. From now to the end of the year, the company will boost production and exports thanks to favorable outlets. However, at the moment, Baseafood faces a shortage of raw material, and has to import 30 percent of raw material for export processing.
