Ban Lifted, Fish Prices to Normalise

Fishermen started venturing into the sea after the 45-day fishing ban was lifted on Sunday. The ban was imposed on April 15 2014 to increase fish production through natural breeding.

Fishermen of Kharinashi, Ramanagar, Baulakani, Jamboo, Batighar and other villages resumes their livelihood activity. Sarat Mandal, a marine fisherman of Kharinashi, said, “The fishing ban has proved to be a great success. The breeding period really helps us catch big shrimps which fetch good prices.” The skyrocketing fish prices due to ban in the State are expected to come down within a few days.
