(vasep.com.vn) After the success of a research project on development of improved-quality pangasius broodstock, An Giang Aquatic Breeding Production Center has provided 5,600 pangasius broodstock to three hatcheries in An Giang province.

These broodstock has good performance and could be traced back their origin. The breeding center are currently able to supply more 4,000 fish broodstock to other hatcheries in the province.

These broodstock are expected to create new generation of pangasius broodstock in order to supply farmers with higher quality fish, contributing to reduce production cost and strengthen competitiveness of An Giang’s pangasius products.

The new broodstock was improved from three groups of fish, including broodstock of An Giang Aquatic Breeding Production Center, those provided by Research Institute for Aquaculture (RIA2) and natural broodstock imported from Cambodia.

After a three-year research, the center grew up about 20,000 pangasius broodstock with high quality. In 2011, it raised 3,600 broodstock pangasius weighing from 1.1 – 1.3 kilogram per piece. In 2012, more 17,500 fish with similar weight were bred; in which 10,000 fish for fingerling production.
