Mekong Delta’s seafood exports recover

Diversifying products and adapting quickly to market fluctuations will help create growth momentum and remove difficulties for seafood exports, experts have said.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs statistics, by the end of April 2020, the country's seafood exports reached US$2.23 billion, down nearly 8% compared to the same period in 2019. In particular, exports in April 2020 decreased slightly by 2.9%. Seafood exports in May 2020 expected to decrease slightly by 1.6% to US$570 million, bringing the total exports of the first 5 months of 2020 to nearly US$3 billion, down over 6% over the same period last year.

On March 4, 2020 in Hanoi, VCCI Vice President Hoang Quang Phong awarded the certificates of merit of VCCI President to seven units for their valuable contributions to the construction of the revised Labor Code 2019. The awardees included the Vietnam Electronic Industries Association (VEIA), the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (Lefaso), the Food and Foodstuff Association of Ho Chi Minh City (FFA), the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham).

Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America, scheduled to take place 15 to 17 March in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A., has been postponed by the event’s organizer, Diversified Communications.

Vietnam’s foreign trade turnover is likely to surpass 500 billion USD in 2019, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai said at a press conference in Hanoi on December 12.

Within the framework of the conferences at VIETFISH 2018, VASEP (Vietnam) in coordination with Nha Trang University (Vietnam), Matis (Iceland), Tromsø University (Norway), Nofima (Norway), and Syntesa (Denmark) plans to hold the series of conferences with topic “European Seafood Industry: Competitiveness and Market Potentials”

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Recently, the General Department of Customs of China has posted an announcement that the National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (Nafiqad) reviewed and sent back the list of 665 Vietnamese seafood enterprises which are eligible to export to the Chinese market. Accordingly, Nafiqad has proposed to remove 15 enterprises from the list of 680 enterprises previously eligible for export to China, as these enterprises have now been dissolved.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2018, the exports of Vietnamese fish paste and surimi products to the Korean market grew continuously, reaching US$108.6 million, up 32.2%. In the first four months of this year, export of fish paste and surimi to this market increased 1.7% to US$27.7 million. From the No. 1 position in importing fish paste and surimi from Vietnam, Korea ceded the top position to ASEAN and was the second largest surimi importer of Vietnam, accounting for 26% of total surimi export value of Vietnam to markets.

The aquatic export turnover was estimated at 3.2 billion USD in the first five months of 2019, a year-on-year decline of 1.7 percent, according the Agro Processing and Market Development Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
