Vietnam strengthens fisheries cooperation with Norway

(vasep.com.vn) On March 21st 2014, in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) in coordination with Norwegian Seafood Council held a conference "Opportunities and outlook in fisheries cooperation between Vietnam and Norway" with an aim to exchange experiences between two sides in aquaculture, seafood processing and exporting. The conference was arranged to take place during the visit to Vietnam by Norway's royal delegation.

(vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, seafood exports in February 2014 reached US$458 million, up nearly 57 percent year on year. Apart from tuna, which saw drop of 156 percent, sales of other aquatic species got rise in export value: shrimp up 156 percent (thanks to a rise of 305 percent in whiteleg shrimp exports), pangasius up 31 percent, cephalopod up 23 percent.

(vasep.com.vn) So far this year, farmers in Bac Lieu province have stocked nearly 1,500 hectares of whiteleg shrimp under intensive and semi-intensive models. Local shrimp farming area reported a sharp increase compared to the same period of last year thanks to higher shrimp price and demand as well as short farming time.

VietGAP adopted by all pangasius farms by 2016
