Seafood export target raised amidst hardships

(The Saigon Times Daily) CAN THO – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has revised the seafood export turnover target for 2012 from US$6.5 billion to US$6.8 billion, regardless of financial distress faced by seafood traders, widespread diseases and shrinking export markets.

Seven seafood companies granted the 2013 National Quality Award

Canada: Seafood exports reach biggest yearly increase in three years

Trade figures released by Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Gail Shea show that the country's seafood exports continued an upward trend in 2013, with an overall increase of CAD 268 million (USD 241.2 million) or 6.5 per cent over the previous year, with total sales reaching CAD 4.42 billion (USD 3.98 billion).

Norway: Seafood exports show continued growth

Norway exported seafood for NOK 5.4 billion (USD 903 million) in February, representing an increase of NOK 1.2 billion (USD 200.7 million) or 29 per cent compared to February last year, according to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.

Vietnam strengthens fisheries cooperation with Norway

(vasep.com.vn) On March 21st 2014, in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) in coordination with Norwegian Seafood Council held a conference "Opportunities and outlook in fisheries cooperation between Vietnam and Norway" with an aim to exchange experiences between two sides in aquaculture, seafood processing and exporting. The conference was arranged to take place during the visit to Vietnam by Norway's royal delegation.

An Giang pangasius producers urged State Bank to have suitable policies

So far, the province numbers more than 20 processing plants for 350,000 MT of frozen fish products per year, contributing 30 – 35 percent to Vietnamese pangasius exports.

(vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, seafood exports in February 2014 reached US$458 million, up nearly 57 percent year on year. Apart from tuna, which saw drop of 156 percent, sales of other aquatic species got rise in export value: shrimp up 156 percent (thanks to a rise of 305 percent in whiteleg shrimp exports), pangasius up 31 percent, cephalopod up 23 percent.
