Tien Giang: Rebound in seafood exports in early 2014

(vasep.com.vn) After the long quiet trend last year, Tien Giang province's seafood exports started increasing in early 2014. This is a good news from Tien Giang-based seafood companies, which have hold a huge inventories due to difficulties in sales abroad. Some of them were pushed to reduce production and cut expenses to keep business.

Minh Phu Seafood Corp eyes on strong rise in 2014 exports

This year, the company targets to reach VND11,715 billion of net turnover and VND421.74 billion of post-tax profit. These figures are up 5.74 percent and 43.53 percent compared to those in 2013.

Nam Can strengthening disease control on farmed shrimp

(vasep.com.vn) Nam Can district based in Ca Mau province has 25,600 hectares of aquaculture land in which over 105 hectares are used for industrial shrimp farming and nearly 420 hectares are used for innovated extensive shrimp farming. The rest is for traditional extensive shrimp farming, forest-shrimp farming and co-cultivating shrimp with other aquatic species.

2014 whiteleg shrimp exports continue to push up

(vasep.com.vn) In 2013, Vietnam’s whiteleg shrimp exports hit US$1.58 billion, up 113 percent year on year and making up 50.7 percent of the country’s total shrimp exports which surpassed black tiger shrimp sales with US$1.33 billion, up only 6.3 percent and occupying 42.7 percent of total shrimp sales. In the first month of 2014, the trend was continued.

Results on fish stock assessment in Vietnam waters

(vasep.com.vn) A workshop on fish stock assessment in Vietnam waters during the period of 2011-2013 was jointly held by the Research Institute for Marine Fisheries (RIMF) and the Department of Fisheries Resources Exploitation and Protection (DECAFIREP) in Hanoi on March 10 2014. RIMF used a scientific approach in assessing fish stock to provide statistics on fish resources in Vietnam seawater.

This was the first clam certified by Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) in Vietnam. The certification opened more opportunities for the province's farmed clams to get popular in foreign markets.

Binh Dinh developing more high-capacity fishing vessels
