(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On 31st Aug 2017, at the meeting room of Saigon International Exhibition & Convention Center (SECC), on the sideline of the Vietfish 2017, VASEP Marine Product Committee held a meeting of seafood enterprises to unify the implementation of the IUU regulations as well as provide solutions to combat IUU fishing.

During a recent meeting in Thailand, the prime ministers of Thailand and Vietnam reaffirmed their commitment to suppressing illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Australia and Vietnam will increase the level of cooperation between the two countries in an effort to combat illegal fishing in the Asia Pacific region.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Being considered as the most important activity of fisheries industry in the year, Vietnam Fisheries International Exhibition 2017 (Vietfish 2017) was opened on 29th Aug 2017 at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC). The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) - Mr. Vu Van Tam- and representatives from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as representatives from trade affairs and business associations from countries such as Thailand, India, and Malaysia ... and the media.

According to the Viet Nam General Statistics Office, the country’s fisheries production in the first seven month of this year was estimated at 4,006 thousand tons, increasing by 4.4 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of this figure, aquaculture was 2,065 thousand tons, an increase of 4.1 per cent and fishing production was 1,949.6 thousand tons, up 4.7 per cent over the same period last year.

Workers process shrimp. Minh Phu Seafood Corporation (MPC) recorded a post-tax profit of VNĐ101.4 billion (US$4.54 million) in the second quarter of this year, 34 times higher than the same period last year.

Vietnam’s shrimp exports to China rose 30% in the first half of 2017, reaching almost US$283 million, making it a potential destination to replace the established markets where the export of Vietnam’s seafood is struggling.

The central coastal province of Phu Yen will branch out high-tech shrimp cultivation models in a bid to realise its target of 100 million USD in production value by 2025.
