In response to Việt Nam receiving a ‘yellow card’ from the European Union, indicating the union’s dissatisfaction with Việt Nam’s efforts to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the National Assembly last week passed the revised Law on Fisheries. The revision has new features to strengthen the IUU fishing fight and help Việt Nam win the removal of the yellow card. As of August 2017, the figure totaled US$402 million, up 55% year on year. The export value to top 9 major markets reported the good growth from the same period in 2016. In particular, imports of canned tuna accounted for 99% of the country's total tuna imports over the last 10 years. 100% of canned tuna products in Egypt are imported, which is due to the fact that the country does not have a processing plant. Most of processed canned tuna products into this country are for domestic consumption, with a few being exported to Sudan.
