In 2008, the European Commission (EC) issued Regulation 1005/2008 on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU). According to the regulation, the countries exporting exploited products to the European Union (EU) must comply with the regulations on IUU.

On Jan 10th 2018, The National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (NAFIQAD) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) of Vietnam sent the letter No 57/ CLCL-CL1 to Food Safety Competent Authorities of exporting countries on informing the requirements for fishery consignments imported into Vietnam for further processing and export to the EU.

Vietnam cephalopod exports to Italy recorded good growth

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2017, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to Italy reached over US$106 million, up nearly 52% compared to 2016. From the beginning of the year, Italy remained as the leading importer of Vietnam cephalopod in the EU, taking up 54% of the total cephalopod exports of Vietnam to the EU and 10% total cephalopod exports to markets.

Localities urged to gear towards shrimp production targets

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked People’s Committees of cities and provinces with large areas of shrimp farms to employ different solutions in order to reach targets set in the national action plan for the development of the shrimp industry through 2025.

Vietnam mainly exports whiteleg shrimp to Belgium

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Belgium stayed as the 11th largest shrimp consumer in the world, accounting for about 3% of total shrimp imports worldwide. Demand for imported shrimp in Belgium remains quite stable, on average about 50 thousand MT per year. Belgium imports not only shrimp for domestic consumption but also for processing and re-exporting to the EU countries.

Vietnam pangasius exports in 2017 totaled US$1.78 billion

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2017, Vietnam’s pangasius exports reached US$1.78 billion, up 4.3% over 2016. Of that, exports to the U.S and EU in December 2017 continued to decline by 26% and 24%, respectively and the figure in 2017 decreased by 11% and 22.3% respectively over the same period last year.

Press Release: Preliminary results of POR12 make Vietnamese shrimp exporters concerned

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The U.S. Department of Commerce released today the preliminary results of the 12th administrative review of the antidumping order on frozen warmwater shrimp from Vietnam. The calculated rate for the sole mandatory exporter, Sao Ta Seafoods Joint Stock Company (FIMEX VN), was announced as 25.39%. FIMEX VN, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), and all of its members are very concerned about this result and believe that it was issued in error.
