Russia – The leading importer of Vietnam’s frozen tuna fillets/loins

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In recent years, tuna has become increasingly popular in Russia. Imports of tuna products into Russia are on the rise. This country has been also increasing tuna imports from Vietnam in the last 5 years

Russia imports tuna from more than 15 countries around the world. Thailand, China, Vietnam, Ecuador, Indonesia and the Seychelles were the single largest tuna suppliers to the market, accounting for 98% of total tuna imports.

ASEAN was currently the main tuna supplier to the market, accounting for 80% of the country's total tuna imports. Vietnam recently held as the second largest tuna supplier to Russia in the last three years (2014 - 2016). According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s tuna exports to Russia from 2012 to this year increased continuously. In the first five months of 2017, Vietnam’s tuna exports inched up 96% to touch US$3.4 million.

Vietnam, China and Indonesia are top three largest suppliers of frozen tuna fillets/loins to the market. Vietnam is the leading exporter of the item to the market, accounting for over 61% of total imports into the market. Vietnam’s frozen tuna fillets/loins are currently competing with the similar item from China and Indonesia.
