Global tilapia market continues to expand
Tilapia is one of the most widely farmed seafood species in the world thanks to its competitive price, high protein content, low fat content, and versatility in processing. According to Zion Market Research, the global tilapia market was valued at approximately US$9.17 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach US$12.65 billion by 2034, with a CAGR of 3.10%. Demand is being driven by growing consumer interest in affordable protein, product diversification, and sustainable aquaculture, particularly in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Vietnam gradually upgrades its tilapia industry
Vietnam is gradually developing tilapia into a promising export-oriented seafood sector, with production reaching approximately 420,000 tonnes in 2025. The production chain is becoming increasingly integrated, from seed production and feed to farming and processing. In the first seven months of 2026, Vietnam’s tilapia exports reached US$80 million, up 55% year on year. Brazil and the United States are key markets, while Japan is emerging as an opportunity for value-added products.
Promoting Vietnamese tilapia at Vietfish 2026
As part of Vietfish 2026, VASEP and the VASEP Tilapia Producers and Exporters Club will host a joint exhibition booth dedicated to Vietnam’s tilapia industry, helping showcase the sector’s image, production capacity, and export potential to the international business community and visitors.
At the booth, visitors will have the opportunity to explore joint publications on Vietnamese tilapia, as well as product materials from Vietnamese companies currently exporting tilapia.
The booth will serve not only as a platform for product promotion but also as a networking hub connecting Vietnamese tilapia companies with importers, distributors, international partners, and Vietfish 2026 visitors. Through this initiative, the industry aims to build the image of Vietnamese tilapia as a safe, reliable, high-quality product with strong potential for sustainable growth in international markets.
