Exports to major markets such as South Korea, Japan, and the US increased slightly, but exports to other main markets such as EU, ASEAN, and China fell sharply.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam's bivalve mollusk exports in Jan-May 2019 reached US $ 36.2 million, down 3% compared to the same period in 2018.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam cephalopod exports to Japan in Jan-May 2019 reached US$61.3 million, up 11.3% over the same period in 2018. Particularly in May 2019, exports to Japan reached US$15.2 million, up 16.5%. Japan still maintains Vietnam's second largest cephalopod importer, accounting for 25.5% of Vietnam's total cephalopod export value to markets.

In which, EU market still accounted for the largest proportion in total bivalve mollusks exports with over 62%, followed by the US, Japan and China with 24%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Export of cephalopod in Vietnam ended in 2018 with a growth rate of 8.3% compared to 2017 reaching US$ 672.3 million. Except for export to EU market due to the impact of “yellow card” warning, export of cephalopod of Vietnam to other markets had positive growth.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Japan is the leading importer of cephalopod in the world, accounting for more than 17% of the total value of imported cephalopod worldwide. Imports of cephalopod from Japan to 2017 has tended to decrease compared to the period 2013-2016 due to decreasing supply of raw materials and increasing import prices.

The export of marine products is expected to rise by 17 percent to 3.5 billion USD this year despite likely hurdles.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) South Korea is the largest consumer of Vietnam's cephalopod, accounting for 39% of Vietnam's total cephalopod exports to all markets. In the past 3 years, South Korea's demand for imported cephalopod has maintained a relatively stable growth rate.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In November of 2018, cephalopod exports of Vietnam continued to prosper with higher growth than the previous month. Export value in November 2018 reached over US$64.8 million, up by 25.5% compared to November 2017, bringing the total value in the first 11 months of this year to US$606.7 million, up 6.3% compared to the same period last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) China is the fifth largest importer of cephalopod in Vietnam, accounting for 7.5% of Vietnam's total cephalopod exports value to markets. Cephalopod exports to this market increased remarkably in the first 5 months while decreased from June to September.
