Binh Thuan: Seafood exports totaled US$52 million in Jan-Aug 2013

(vasep.com.vn) In August 2013, Binh Thuan province exported US$6.8 million of seafood, up 2.9 percent from the previous month but down 6.8 percent from that of a year ago. The decline in seafood exports was due to unfavorable weather conditions and difficulties in fish catching.

The accumulated seafood exports to August 2013 yielded US$51.9 million, accounting for 32.5 percent of the province’s total export turnover. Local seafood exporters mainly sold their products to Japan, South Korea, Italy, France, the U.K, Singapore, the U.S., Malaysia, Australia.

Amid current economic distress, local enterprises targeted to invest in equipments, raise processing capacity, remain the quality of exported products including dried seafood (squid, finfish), frozen fish (squid, finfish, mollusk), fresh and live fish.

Until August 2013, the province has more than 25 seafood exporters, in which, 10 exporters reached export turnover of over US$1 million and sold their products to more than 30 markets.
