BAP

To promote responsible practices across the aquaculture industry, the Global Aquaculture Alliance coordinates the development of Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification standards for hatcheries, farms, processing facilities and feed mills. 

The BAP program drives continued improvements via high standards that deliver significant benefits industrywide. The BAP standards cover aquaculture facilities for a variety of finish and crustacean species, as well as mussels.

VIET GAP

To contribute to promoting aquaculture seafood, agriculture products and food safety in general and fruit and vegetable for consumption in the country in particular and exports, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued the Criteria VietGAP on 01/28/2008.

VietGAP (Vietnamese Good Agriculture Practices): Practices good agriculture production in Vietnam is based on 04 criteria, such as Standard on production techniques; Food safety including measures to ensure no chemical contamination or physical contamination during harvesting; Working environment aims to prevent abuse of the labor of farmers; Product traceability. 

On 31 December 2015, all commercial fish farms must apply and be certified by VietGAP or other international certifications under Decree No. 36/2014/ND-CP dated 29/04/2014 about farming, processing and export of pangasius products. The Decree comes into force on 20 June 2014. The certification program is encouraged in farming many other fishes in Vietnam.

Certifications

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued new rules that require processors of fish and fishery products to develop and implement e-certification systems for their operations.

An initiative by the Mekong Youth Farm Network (Y-Farm) that focuses on youth engagement in organic farming and educating the younger generation in sustainable agriculture has won a grant from the US Department of State.

Led by high-tech methods, the VietGAP-compliant shrimp farming project is bringing previously unseen wealth to the southernmost province of Ca Mau.

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council is "sorry" that European retailers have decided to halt sales of pangasius and defended its environmental credentials.

In response to the strong negative public exposure surrounding pangasius farming for some time now, the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) ensures that this fish can be produced in a responsible manner and under stringent food safety standards, so it can bought with confidence.

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) regrets some retailers have decided to stop sales of pangasius, since it assures that if this fish is responsibly farmed, and in accordance with the solid environmental and social criteria defined in the ASC Pangasius Standard, buyers and consumers can rely on their choice.

Godaco Seafood is the second producer in Vietnam to receive four star BAP certification.

Vietnamese pangasius player Godaco is planning to launch a brand in 2017, having been awarded four Best Aquaculture Practice (BAP) stars.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The productivity of shrimp farming (including black tiger and whiteleg shrimp farming) under VietGAP standard achieved more than 11 MT/ha with the profit of more than VND600 million/ha, approximately 30% higher than traditional farming method.

Brakes Group has become the first foodservice supplier to introduce Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified prawns in the UK. Launched at the end of March, Brakes' new ASC certified warm water prawns (F114100 M&J Seafood ASC King Prawns, 1kg nett (31-40/lb)) are a natural compliment to its already industry leading range of sustainably and responsibly sourced fish and seafood.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Source from Ca Mau Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; the province currently has 12,401 hectares of shrimp farming combined with afforestation certified by international ecological standard. These farming areas are owned by 2,511 households in two districts of Nam Can and Ngoc Hien of Ca Mau.

Stapimex is the world’s first shrimp operation, and the second across all species, to successfully complete the new Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) group farm program, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced on Thursday.
