VASEP and ILO release “Practical Guide on Preventing Child Labour in Fishery Supply Chains”

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In March 2022, the VASEP Association and the International Labour Organization (ILO) cooperatively implemented and released “Practical Guide on Preventing Child Labour in Fishery Supply Chains”, with the support of Technical Support for Enhancing the National Capacity to Prevent and Reduce Child Labour in Viet Nam (ENHANCE).

The document aims to help businesses and units in the seafood supply chain with updating and improving their knowledge about child labour and measures to prevent and eliminate child labour; to encourage and promote the self-directed development of specific and appropriate actions on preventing child labour in factories through specific guidelines, which helps to promote social responsibility, business ethics and build harmonious and stable labour relations.

The document consists of 3 parts:

1. Part 1: Child Labour – Definition and Determination

2. Part 2: Practical guide on preventing child labour in seafood factories and supply chains.

3. Part 3: Guidelines for remedial and responsible handling when detecting child labour in factories and supply chains.

This book is expected to be the primary reference used by enterprises and units in the seafood supply chain in the matter of good practice in preventing and eliminating child labor. Thereby, the enterprises will comply with policies and commitments, enhance the competitiveness, position, and reputation of Vietnamese seafood products in the international market.

The document has been widely distributed to 438 units in the seafood chain, including: Representatives of Ministries, Sub-departments of fisheries, Fishing port management boards, companies and units in the seafood supply chain.
